Visual artist, Nichole Speciale, and musician/sound artist, Curt Miller, collaboratively create work utilizing the inherent visual qualities of audio equipment as an art making material resulting in pieces that occupy a hybrid space between drawing, sound, sculpture, and performance. These audio-visual works invite viewers to consider the relationships between sound, image, space and place. This is accomplished through a variety of means such as employing aural phenomena like beating patterns to draw attention to the physical effects of sound, altering speakers to produce sound in alternative ways, or creating interactive environments in which viewers’ sound is integrated into the work itself.

Recent site specific projects use radio antennae constructed from speaker wire or thicker gauged, stiff copper wire in sculptural shapes which accentuate notable features of the space. The playback of radio received by these antennae call attention to the invisible and ubiquitous flows of data through gallery spaces and two dimensional art surfaces. More importantly, they bring in the disparate voices from outside the art space and create an evolving dialogue between the work, the installation space and the surrounding community.
